VAWA evaluations assess and document the presence of and psychological impact of intimate partner abuse. It should be noted that survivors of domestic violence/intimate partner abuse can be male or female. This is stated proactively to respect the fact that it is experienced by inidivuals regardless of gender.
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner (Domestic Violence, 2025). Domestic violence can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, psychological, or technological actions or threats of actions or other patterns of coercive behavior that influence another person within an intimate partner relationship (Domestic Violence, 2025).
Why may your immigration attorney recommend an evaluation?
Evaluations can support your immigration process by providing documentation of psychosocial distress or risk of future distress related to your type of immigration petition. It should be noted that the evaluation would be completed in English. Jodie has worked with individuals who are Spanish speaking, provided an interpreter can be obtained in time to complete the evaluation by the identified immigration deadline.
For VAWA Evaluations - self pay cost between $500-3000 depending on the nature of the case, the hours of researching documents (ie police reports, medical records, etc), and the time it takes to prepare a comprehensive report.
Payment plans available to reduce the stress of paying for this important evaluation. **Sliding scale for low-income earners to ensure all individuals have the ability to access this service regardless of their ability to pay. The rate is determined on a case by case basis.
